SAMPLE ACTIVITIES

We have made two sample activities available for download. You will need Adobe Reader to view these activities.

The first activity comes from Unit 3 Cycle 2, which introduces the gravitational interaction. In Activity 1, students discuss possible sources of Earth's gravity. Activity 2 concerns three possible sources frequently mentioned by students :

Air pressure
Earth's magnetic field
Earth's rotation

Students conduct three short experiments to test each of these possibilities.

Unit 3 Cycle 2 Activity 2.

The second activity comes from Unit 4 Cycle 1, which deals with the concepts of mass and volume, and whether either quantity is conserved during interactions. One of the most common ideas about mass is that gases have no mass. In Activity 3, students conduct an experiment to determine whether or not this idea is correct.
